Sea of Thieves is releasing in early 2018, but we still don’t know a lot about the game. Many people didn’t get to play themselves yet, or just don’t have the time to search for hours to find the answers to their questions. That’s why we decided to create this FAQ. It should answer most of your questions about the game and if there is still something that we didn’t answer, feel free to tell us in the comments section below the article!
What is Sea of Thieves?
Sea of Thieves is a shared world Adventure Game about pirates. You can play your own pirate character in a game that is based on the cooperation with your crew members. All of this happens in a shared world, which means that you could meet another Crew that wants to steal your treasure, play music together and maybe even drink some Grog!
What platforms will Sea of Thieves be released on?
Sea of Thieves will be released on Xbox and Windows 10 PC. It won’t run on any other windows, as it requires some built-in Windows Store Support that comes with Windows 10. Note that you will need Xbox Gold on Xbox because it’s an online game.
When does Sea of Thieves release?
The release date is currently set for early 2018, but we don’t know any specific date yet.

No, there is no separate Singleplayer Mode. You can, however, play on a Solo Ship by yourself, but you will still meet other Crews and pirates in the world.

How will Progression work?
Wo don’t know yet, but Rare has told us that there will be a lot of news in this direction at the end of the Year. We do know that there will be no vertical Progression, meaning that players with 100 hours in the game won’t be stronger than players that have just started. Cosmetics and Game Experiences are a core Part of the progression System.
What weapons are in the Game?
Currently, there are 3 Types of weapons. The first one is the Sword. There will be multiple Variations in the future. Next up is the pistol, a weapon for mid-range battles. Is there PvP/PvE?
Yes, there is both in the game. Keep in mind that it is a shared world adventure game, meaning that there won’t be a “PVP/PvE Only Mode”. You are always in the danger of having a fight with an enemy crew or fighting off Skeletons.
What can we do with the Treasure we find?
For now, you can turn the Chest in at an Outpost. You will then receive Gold based on the Rarity of the Chest you have found. With the Gold, you will probably be able to buy items at Shops.
How does Customization Work?
In the game, you will be able to customize your character and your Ship in a lot of different ways. You can add Eyepatches, Peg Legs, and Hook Hands. Also, you can change the clothes of your character. Different Clothes are obtainable with either Gold or by Completing Challenges in the World, like defeating a certain Enemy. We don’t know too many details about this system yet, so we’ll have to wait till the Developers announce more on this Part.
In terms of Ship Customization, you can change the look of the Ship itself, the Captain’s Cabin, the Sails and other parts individually. Again, we don’t know any details yet.
How does Death Work?
When you die in Sea of Thieves, you go to the Ferry of the Damned. There you will have to wait till you can respawn again. Every dead player is on the same Ferry of the Damned, so you can meet other players that died at the same time as you did! After a certain time, you will hear a bell ringing, that’s your signal to Step through the door and respawn on your Ship.
